Around 4:30 this morning I was awoken by nausea and stomach pain. I spent the next hour or so curled up on the couch, waiting for it to pass. I was really dizzy so I couldn't take Gravol as Gravol makes my dizziness worse = more nausea.
I have these miracle nausea pills called Ondansetron. They're made for chemotherapy patients because they're so effective at reducing nausea. They also have no side effects - no drowsiness or dizziness.
However they're over $5 per pill and my insurance hasn't covered them in the past. At that price, I have to be pretty miserable before I allow myself to take one. Since waking up in the night with an upset stomach is common for me, I know that if I just try to sit up for several hours it will pass. That's why I usually don't take Ondansetron for my middle of the night stomach episodes.
I quickly went and got one of my beloved Ondansetron pills. It's incredible how quickly it works. Not only did it almost completely take away the stomach pain and nausea, but my dizziness improved as well.
I can't even imagine if I lived in the USA and had to pay to see doctors or have tests. I am SO lucky to have free basic healthcare.
We've been spending a couple hundred dollars on prescriptions each month, and it looks like my husband's new insurance plan will allow us to get future prescriptions for free! Excuse me while I do a little happy dance...
