Today I met with an anesthetist and a registered nurse at the hospital.
They told me that there are 5 Predictors of Nausea/Vomiting after a Surgery:
- Being female
- Being young
- Being a non-smoker
- Having previous stomach problems (eg. Gastroparesis)
- Having a history of nausea/vomiting after general anesthesia.
I have 4 out of the 5, since I've never had general anesthesia before.
Also, the anesthetist said that gynecological surgeries cause a lot more nausea than other types of surgery.
So I'm preparing mentally for the possibility of having an upset stomach when I wake up. However I'm also thinking very positively and picturing myself waking up after surgery with no nausea at all. Hopefully my stomach will get the message. ;)
I was encouraged to hear that they wont send me home until my nausea and pain are under control. I'd much rather stay at the hospital where I can get all my meds through an IV instead of going home and being miserable.
