My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip - he who watches over you will not slumber, indeed he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord watches over you - the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day nor the moon by night.
The Lord will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forever more.
Psalm 121:1-8
I've heard the analogy used - that parents sometimes let their child get hurt in order to protect them. For example:
You don't stop a vaccination, even as your child screams, begging you with pleading eyes to protect them from the pain. They can't understand why, if you say you love them so much, you wont stop this pain. You let your child make their own mistakes at times because you know if you tried to protect your child from ever getting hurt, it wouldn't be healthy. |
But how can God just sit there while people hurt? Does God cry when he sees his children in pain? How does he restrain himself from intervening in such big issues, when he so easily could?
I have to trust that when God says he will keep me from all harm, that it means he allows bad things to happen to me because he loves me and wants the best for me. Even if I may never understand the reasons why during this lifetime.
Yesterday when she went to the ER, the doctor told her she was fine and recommended a psych evaluation!
These past few months she's been searching for a Neurosurgeon in Canada who would consider doing surgery on her. After calling countless Neurosurgeons, she's yet to find one.
What are you supposed to do when you need surgery but there are no surgeons in Canada who will do the surgery? It just doesn't seem fair.
I don't always know why God allows so much pain, but I do know that he loves me. I still know that he is my helper, my watcher over me, and my loving heavenly Father. When I lift up my eyes, he is there.
I lift my eyes to the hills - where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, maker of heaven and earth.
