Now I'm curled up on the couch with Archie and listening to the rain as I nap. Today I was reminded again how thankful I am to be able to go to the doctors whenever I want and not have to worry about how to pay for it. Thank you Canadian healthcare.
I've caught some nasty throat bug. My tonsils are looking really funky and swollen. I went to a walk in clinic today and the doctor didn't think it was another round of mono which was a big relief. He took a swab for strep throat but thinks it's just a virus.

Something incredibly helpful I've learned is to give myself the time to vent, grieve, have a pity party, etc. and then move on. Get it over with because it's healthy to express these feelings, but then don't dwell on them. Having a positive attitude does not mean repressing your feelings, because that's fake and will eventually lead to a break down. I realized I was tired of talking about my problems all of the time. It got depressing to keep thinking about all the things in my life that weren't going the way I wanted them to go. I realized that when I talked about my blessings, not only did I feel better, but the person I was talking to also seemed to feel happy. I like being happy and I like being around happy people. It wasn't too hard then for me to start thinking and talking about my blessings more, while reserving an appropriate amount of time to talk about my problems. Last December I had to stop taking my Gastroparesis medication (called Domperidone) for a few weeks due to some side effects. Eating became terrible. I was basically just having liquids but was in so much pain every time I'd eat. I would vomit frequently and was constantly really nauseous. I lost 17 lbs, became underweight, and my hair started falling out. Many people with gastroparesis have feeding tubes and the idea was incredibly appealing at the time. People with feeding tubes can lead healthy active lives without the stress of getting sick every time they eat. Thankfully I was able to go back on my medication and slowly became able to eat again. I'm so happy to have a medication that helps my gastroparesis so immensely. |
